Instagram recently announced they are adding a new ad unit into the Explore tab. As explained by Instagram,
“We’re introducing ads in Explore slowly and thoughtfully in the coming months. After tapping on a photo or video in Explore, people may begin to see ads as part of their browsing experience just like in the main feed.”
If you click on a post in the Explore feed, you are taken to a separate list of related posts. With this new ad rollout, there will be ads similar to the post you clicked on showing up within the Explore tab as well.
Instagram’s advertising business is on the rise. It is currently growing faster than Facebook and it’s experiencing more user engagement growth than its parent platform. Including advertisements within the Explore tab will continue their growth because ads will now be reaching beyond the main feed.
This new feature gives advertisers a chance to, “be a part of what is culturally relevant and trending while reaching new audiences who are looking to discover something new”. With more than half of Instagram’s one billion users visiting the Explore tab each month, this is sure to be a great opportunity for ad expansion in the world of social media marketing.
